Atlas East Assistive Technology Mapping - Help and Information
How to Use the Mapping
The initial screen shows a map of East Anglia with all the Assisistive Technology companies
and organisations that we have information for - from here you can locate specific sectors of interest to you.
Filtering
By default there is no filtering, so you will see all the companies
represented. To search for a specific type of company or organisation you
can use the filters above the map. The filters are multi-choice so you
can select a good number of options. For convenience, the filters you have
applied are displayed below the map. NB: - to close the filter selector,
simply click anywhere else on the screen and the selector will close itself.
Map Navigation
The maps are standard Google maps which many of you will already be
familiar with.
- You can scroll the map by holding down your mouse button and dragging in any direction
- You can zoom in by double-clicking on any part of the map or by using the 'zoom level' control on the right side of the map
- We've also added a 'Quick Locator' feature. Simply select your preferred location and the map will automatically zoom in to that location
Clustering
If you 'zoom out' the view so a much larger area of map is visible, for
visual convenience large numbers of companies or organisations within a
close geographical proximity are indicated by a 'cluster' icon.
You'll note that at these more distant zoom levels it's mostly clusters that you
see on the map. Each cluster shows the number of companies or organisations
contained within it. If you double-click a cluster you will zoom in and then
you will see the clusters will break up into a number of smaller clusters.
You can repeat the zooming-in process until the viewable geography allows
individual companies and organisations to be shown.
Company / Organisation Identifier
Individual
companies and organisations are represented by the push-pin icon. If you
click any one of these icons a small information window will appear with
the name and address of the company or organisation represented. Within
the small information window there is a link for 'full details'. Click
that link and you will see details of contact information, website, expertise
and specialisms.
Geographical Notes
The locations of companies and organisations are based on latitude and longtitude, and
have generally been derived from geocoding software. Note that at distant
zoom levels the positions of clusters are fairly 'general' and take into
account the relative distribution of the items within the cluster. Also
note that at close zoom levels the point of the push-pin is not necessarily
the precise location of the company or organisation, it is equally likely
to be the centre of the relevant postcode.
